So I wanted to check out if there was any recent news at the GE/Hitachi experimental reactors and nuclear waste processing facility down the way in Sunol, CA here:

I noticed that the map now says it's the Shafer Corporation, and checking out their website shows that they're a subcontractor for the department of defense and department of energy. Just what has moved into my back yard?

I found a reference to the address in some meeting notes to all licensed Test, Research, and Training Reactors in the country (TRTCs) last year. These aren't generating power so they aren't as well known. See if there's one near you.

Also this is pretty cool, it shows the design of shipping containers for Cobalt, Cesium, and Antimony that lists my local TRTC as a signee. Should you see a truck with one of these on it crashed on the road, best to avoid it. ;)

Thank you for the great information.

As you suggested, I did search that .pdf document and found the nearest research reactor to me.

I found this quote interesting in the description about the research reactor. Do you have any knowledge about what the highlighted & underlines part is talking about?

Quote:
The Reactor is used to teach nuclear engineering classes and also provides irradiation services and other support for various research projects.

Irradiation services would include materials testing for degradation under various types of exposure. For example, fuel bundle tubes made of zirconium alloys have to handle heavy neutron radiation, and these services would provide the results for fine tuning the alloy contents, and for understanding the precise mechanisms leading to degradation.
