While I am happy to see that this recent Illinois proposed ban on the sale of raw milk fail it is just another example of our elected government officials attempting to restrict small business or at the very least, the consumers choice. Shame on you Daniel Burke for being the sponsor of such a bill!

Quote:
Now, a proposed bill in Illinois banning the sale and distribution of natural or “raw” milk, has come to a screeching halt this session after legislators heard from thousands of natural milk supporters.

The restriction, which was slipped in as an amendment to an unrelated bill, HB 4036 HA1, would have banned the sale and distribution of raw milk in Illinois.

The fact that the bill has been shot down does not mean we should not worry, because we should. Does this not concern you because it is not your state? Well states often follow each other so your state or mine, it does matter a great deal! It was a year ago in May of 2013 this debate was brought up and we can expect them to try again sometime down the road. An interesting fact is that in Wisconsin, a state that many see as the dairy land state - the private sale of raw milk is illegal already and farmers have been arrested for it.

 Are you going to fight back, I am by having contacted my elected officials more this year than ever before!

I want to also point out that this proposed ban on raw milk was introduced as an amendment to an unrelated bill, yes they tried to sneak it in!

I will give Daniel Burke D-23rd district credit for backing down after hearing from the people, but we also need to understand that Daniel Burke D-23rd district introduced the bill too!

Quote:
After the amendment was introduced, consumers and farmers alike rallied to inform elected officials about the benefits of natural milk. Farmers brought samples of the milk to the state capitol. Representatives learned about the importance of this local product with some even opting to try fresh milk for the first time. Several allegedly said it was the best milk they’ve ever had.

Burke says he was asked to introduce the amendment by a Cook County Health Department official who was concerned with not having regulations in place for off-farm sales and distribution. Burke notes that he learned a lot from the people who contacted his office expressing their concerns.

“With the increasing popularity of the beverage, including legislation introduced on the national level, it just doesn’t make sense to interfere with the direct relationship between the people who produce this food and the people who want it,” says Burke. “I have no intention of moving forward with this bill. I would like to see the law remain as it is and I appreciate all those who took the time to contact me with their opinions.”

The Campaign for Real Milk is a project of the nutrition education nonprofit, The Weston A. Price Foundation. Based in Washington, DC, WAPF is the leading advocacy group promoting broader consumer access to safety-tested raw milk. Contact info@westonaprice.org or visit realmilk.com and westonaprice.org.

IMO

So-called 'riders' should not be allowed on Bills which may be voted into law.
Unfortunately, this is an example of how business is done, on the hill.

Ugh. It saddens me. I found out about camels milk awhile back... it is simply one of the most nutrient rich things out there... and is illegal to sell in the US. smh.

Notice the pattern? Anything good for us is often banned, while stuff that is bad for us is sold to us as if it was good.

Yes, I saw an interesting post yesterday about Prop 65 in Cali, how all these store owners have to post warnings and everything, yet when they try to get answers about why their radiation levels are 5 times normal (half moon bay), they are repeatedly told everything is just fine. :(

It occurs to me, that unless you are a young heifer, trying to put on weight quick as possible to survive your first winter, milk from a grass chewin critter just might not be the wisest choice in your diet, considering the ever increasing levels of fallout around the globe from various events.

...just sayin

I like the grass fed cows too for both beef and milk because of their better nutrition but when it comes to radiation fallout, I think the grass fed ones are worse. It's like playing the show Fear Factor, none of our choices seem to be good ones.

An example of this would be seen here in this episode:

Yep.
None of the choices seem to be good ones...

Reminds me of the old tale...
A fellow could see war coming on the horizon, so he sold his property in Virginia and moved his family north. To a small Pennsylvania town called Gettysburg.
