Attorney Bob Guild held a press conference at the S.C. Public Service Commission.

Regulators have ordered SCANA Corp. subsidiary SCE&G to respond to the complaint by late July and set a hearing to begin August 14.

I have not yet found out what all of that is about, because I can't seem to find any other news source talking about it and that paper above requires a subscription to view it. I obviously do not have a subscription and refuse to buy one.

Here's another source. From Columbia Regional Business Report:
Quote:
The S.C. Public Service Commission has granted the request by Friends of the Earth and the state chapter of the Sierra Club for a hearing to examine whether the troubled reactor project at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station should proceed.

The environmental groups on Thursday filed a complaint with the commission asking for the project to be abandoned and for regulators to order South Carolina Electric & Gas to rebate customers for rate hikes approved since the project was approved in February 2009 as well as consider alternative energy sources.

It's good to see regulators are willing to listen to arguments. I hope the environmental groups can keep the hearing topics sensible, so the local authorities can make a good decision. SC residents should pay close attention, and not let anyone hide long term costs, especially waste management. Annual costs times x years = total costs, where x has no practical limit at the moment.
