Currently it seems the EPA site data has paused for about 22 hours.
Does anyone have the URL for the epa site search engine?

I'm trying to understand the integration of EPA Radnet monitors to the NETC map.

At the EPA Radnet site there are many gamma detectors around the country that are showing CPM's of 5000-7000 cross all energy levels it picks up. I understand the issues with interpreting CPM's from any one site, but I'm wondering why I don't see a location on the map for, lets say San Diego, which has a CPM in the 7000 range. Shouldn't those stations show up on the map, or are they not including all Radnet sites in the feed you use?

Here are a few links to the kind of station I'm talking about.

I noticed that San Diego is listed as one of the inactive EPA sites. The CPM last reported is 306, so it must not have been reporting the numbers from the detector above. Unless I'm completely misinterpreting what those graphs I'm linking to show?

Thanks for any light you can shine on this for me.

Take a look here: http://epa.gov/radnet/radnet-data/radne ... go-bg.html

See how there are 9 different energy bands? We are monitoring energy range #5 (the green line on that page), not the total gamma summary count that you linked to, which has the sum of all the gamma energy ranges thrown together, not really useful by itself because most of it is from ranges 2,3, and 4, making the smaller changes in range 5 dissapear.

While you are on the epa radnet site, read up on the different energy ranges and you may start to see why we are monitoring range 5.

Perfect! Thanks. I understand why you choose to limit it to the 600-800 kEv range, which you have right on each detector popup.

My bad.

Thank you though for the reply.

aHEMagain.

ps: still, 5000-7000 CPM total Gamma does seem a little high, doesn't it? It's damnably hard to get info on historical "background" so I don't know if it's always been that way, just been that way since the open air nuclear testing, or something more recent.

I think most people are completely unaware just how many nuclear explosions there have been post Hiroshima.
