Guess what? It's hot again, could it be the oil refineries?
“Radioactive wastes from oil and gas drilling take the form of produced water, drilling mud, sludge, slimes, or evaporation ponds and pits. It can also concentrate in the mineral scales that form in pipes (pipe scale), storage tanks, or other extraction equipment. Radionuclides in these wastes are primarily radium-226, radium-228, and radon gas. The radon is released to the atmosphere, while the produced water and mud containing radium are placed in ponds or pits for evaporation, re-use, or recovery.” Stuart Smith, Attny.

I counted 13 refineries on a Google map search within 5 miles of downtown.
Bakersfield is known to have thee worst air in the country.

The waste is called Technologically Enhanced Radioactive Materials, TERM.
Maybe a holding tank was vented or a million gallons of water from fracking was pumped into a pond and became airborne.

Yes, you are correct.
A number of refineries in Btown.
and production fields all around the lower end of the valley...
Oh! the valley!
There is most likely no one who knows exactly how many hundreds of thousands of tons of chem fertilizers are dumped on the crops grown there...
And then there's the wind. Which blows everything in the entire valley down to the southern end, where Btown is.
The reading is now at 1900... that is WAY high!
I'd really like to hear from the operator of that station.
Thank you
rc

I am sorry. That is incorrect.
It's at 892cpm now, and shows 1800cpm as a high.
Explanation, PLS!
