Not sure why it spikes everyday around 10-11 AM only on East side of the house. Originally thought it was from Fukashima because it spiked during snowfalls or rain but now there is no precipitation to cause it. It was in sunlight, so have moved the unit in the shade (11:15 AM). It has stopped chirping so maybe the sun is the source.

Glad to hear about the update and your contribution of data is greatly appreciated, thank you.

My unit is outside 24/7 but fully shaded.

Well it looks like the CO station is right now (no spikes today)...

...We still have the spiking in Wa but I'll bet it's the same situation.

Hopefully that operator will check the board or someone will contact him/her to move the unit out of the sun and place it where it stays in the shade all day...

I hope everyone realizes that the windowsill versus the floor inside doesn't help detection, in fact the floor is where you'll get the best read inside a room...

When placed outside, the detector (in most cases) is not designed to be in the outside environment so any sunlight WILL spike the reads. If you place a 300 or most any other tube/pancake detector outside you MUST shade the unit "full time" or you get spikes that have nothing to do with man made isotopes. These are not false reads but a natural read from the sun itself.

Unless you intend to read the sun "full time" these are ALL false readings when trying to find man made substances. And your counter won't actually tell you if you have made made isotopes in your area while blinded by the sun. Pretty much ruins any detection capability while the sun is hitting the unit.

GET EM IN THE SHADE!

Either build a good "birdhouse" for your detector or place it in a area that has NO direct sunlight throughout the ENTIRE day!

That's such important info regarding the shade. I'll pass it along to anyone who doesn't already know. Mine happen to be in the shade but I'll bet there's been a time or two when I'm gardening and forget where I've set it. (Or both since I leave the GMC320plus set on CPM's and the PRM9000 is generally on uSv's and placed where I am checking more closely doing a timed measurement.) I found out something the hard way when I first got it and ran out and laid it on the grass, looking at the count rising. I don't know why but ants were attracted to to it and a few crawled right through the mesh screen. After a what seemed like forever of shaking it around the last one finally fell out.
Thanks for the good info on shade! My readings are averaging 24CPM's and .11uSv's.

CrAzY ant story. I own the Mazur 9000 too along with an InspectorEXP, many GMC200 and one GMC300. Your very lucky the grass blades didn't puncture your pancake geiger tube. The pancake geiger tube are very fragile.

So the ants caused a jump in readings? Wow very interesting.

You should try some testing and let us know what you find.

I'd be interested to know the measurements versus background...

Place the counter in a plastic bag (blocks alpha though) do a background of 2 min. and place it on a ant hill for 2 min. and let me know what you find.

In what part of the country are you located?

Check out this video on radioactive ants around a fuel fragment...

Here's another one...

...doesn't tell where it was taken.

I am confused, I didn't read anything previously about user Teri in NE WA finding any radioactive ants. The way I read it was that the ants simply crawled inside of the unit when it was placed directly on the ground. The user suggested that for some reason the ants seemed to be attracted to the pancake tube.

I maybe wrong on this one, but, what I got from the statement from Teri was...

Quote:

Without doubt, ants are "miners", they may even be attracted to radioactive rocks for reasons we cannot (or ever will be) able to understand. Running to a Gamma/Beta detector raise any eyebrows? It should...

Think about a ant mine, every time it rains the shafts are flooded (no electric pumps to clear the runoff). Somehow these guys are everywhere AND THRIVING so they (the ants) must know what they are doing. This is a great way to study radiation as a whole in our environment (not to mention the thought of long term nuke storage). It's the little things ya know?

Let's not forget the poisons that people put on these "ant mines" that don't work...

Used to be (according to most people the world was flat AND was the center of the universe) the whole so called modern world (back then and now) didn't pay attention to these things because they thought it didn't matter and didn't have the true facts.

We don't have that luxury today...

Let's ALL look everywhere!!!

It ain't over till it's over...

ALL of these things can give us the knowledge we did't have before and this combined knowledge can (and will) save us, our children and our grandchildren.

IF we continue to work toward the same goal, WE WILL SUCCEED.

And TOGETHER we WILL find answers in places we haven't looked at so far...

... AMAZING TRUTH is what will save us AND (the amazing) people everywhere that are willing do it for free WILL save the world!!!

Remember, if you don't have the cure, your'e looking in the wrong places...

Good to hear from you...

Yes that is correct King Cobra. No radioactive ants. :) I'll look through my files and see if I have a pic of my readings that day but have to go to town right now. will be back this evening. I *think* it was around 30cpm
