I tested the old Coleman Mantles that are use for light. The backgound radiation is around 20 cpm and over the mantles it went to 479 cpm in about 30 seconds. I wonder what else is dangerous around the house.

I wonder if that was from the mantles themselves or from the propane fuel you've been burning in them.

What model geiger counter were you using for the measurement so I can understand better how radioactive it is.

I took the extra spare mantles from the box and used my gmc-300 over the top of them.

I plan to go to walmart and check out their supply of mantles tomorrow.

Yesterday I tested a new mantle from Walmart. No radiation above the norm.
