I think radon is attributed as the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking. But I'm curious if this issue is clouded by the additional release of noble gases from the nuke industry. If indeed the so-called 'cancer factory' nuke plants are releasing tremendous quantities of ionized noble gases, what effect does that have on the ozone, and thus potentially, to 'global warming'/'climate change'? :?

I agree John! In fact, during hurricane Sandy many of the East Coast nuclear plants had to SCRAM "EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN" and as I watched (wind map link below) the hurricane winds over the next couple days reach me in Illinois, I seen my inside pancake geiger counters background level average increase. I only wish I had my outside unit then!

Well, aside from the conventional theory on ozone depletion in the stratosphere (due to CFC's), there may be more complicated interactions at play. Ozone at ground level could actually be created from the interaction of noble gasses with ionizing radiation; at ground level, ozone can act as a greenhouse gas (besides increasing risk of asthma).

Funny, I had literally just received my radon test results from an outside lab using the charcoal filter product from First Alert. Here I was all excited that my readings were 1.8 and <1.6 and then I read the above post :-(

Put your unit in the basement for a week on the floor near your sump hole if you have one and I will compare with what my previous readings were and tell you around how many pCi/L you likely have.

Make sure to erase your site location so it does not show up on the NETC public map. Then just send me the link to the live chart

I apologize if my previous use of the language "so-called 'cancer factory'" was unfairly inflammatory to some readers. It would require more reading and education from the casual reader here to understand where it came from; I think I originally read the term used by a physician named Helen Caldicott. The reader is left to do their own research to try and understand what she meant.

Peace.

I am well aware of Helen Caldicott's work and I agree with the nuclear industry being a cancer factory, no offence taken.
