Update: using my substitute cable, we had consistent uptime until yesterday evening (about 1 week!)

The right-angle connector has arrived, so this was a good opportunity to make the switch.

As of this posting, we are now rebooted, and are using the silver cable that came with the package along with the usb right-angle connector.

Let's see how long we stay up this time!

Thanks.

...Maybe if it were possible to get a usb cable with gold contacts...that may help. I regularly have problems with contacts due to high humidity. A hint of grit or oil (like off your fingers) on contacts can cause problems weather the fitting wiggles or not...this is just my two bobs worth - not wanting to add any confusion to he mix :D

Well I'm down again.

Or more accurately: the PI is still up and on the network, but I'm not hearing from the geiger (no chart on the pi's reporting page), and therefore it's not reporting to netc.

So... the admin's call about the cable or plugs is seeming more and more likely. (good job diagnosing admins!)

The right-angle connector, cool as it is, is looking like it may not be the solution.

I would suspect the silver cable that comes with Package #2... but I only got a week of uptime using my own alternate cable.

So... i'm now leaning toward the usb port in the geiger, or maybe the usb port in the pi. The mini usb is probably more likely the culprit over the standard usb in the pi.

Regardless... we're looking about as reliable as tepco for reporting at this point!

(maybe future packages can spec more rugged/reliable equipment?)

(or come with a small tube of superglue? )
