I bought some of this: http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/nascent-iodine-detoxadine.html

I understand this is safer than using potassium iodine.

Try a glass of red wine..

According to the latest research, red wine - along with its many other claimed benefits - may also protect you from radiation exposure.

A team at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have discovered that resveratrol, the natural anti-oxidant found in red wine, can protect cells from the damage caused by radiation.

In experiments on mice the scientists found that when combined with the chemical acetyl and administered before radiation exposure it protected the cells and helped prevent death.

The results, to be presented to the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, could lead to drugs to counteract poisoning in the wake of a nuclear emergency or attack.

"New, small molecules with radioprotective capacity will be required for treatment in case of radiation spills or even as countermeasures against radiological terrorism," said Dr Joel Greenberger of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the university.

"Small molecules which can be easily stored, transported and administered are optimal for this, and so far acetylated resveratrol fits these requirements well.
"Currently there are no drugs on the market that protect against or counteract radiation exposure."
The study was overseen by Pitt's Center for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation, which is dedicated to finding radiation protecters that can be administered in the event of a large-scale radiological or nuclear emergency.
The current research is not connected to advice given to workers cleaning up Chernobyl who were told to drink half a glass of vodka after every two hours of exposure to radiation.

While reservatrol, which is found in red wine was found to protect cells exposed to radiation, its actually a slight modification of the chemical called acetyl resveratrol which was found most effective in counteracting radiation exposure in living creatures.

A substance similar to resveratrol (an antioxidant found in red wine, grapes, and nuts) could protect against radiation sickness, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have discovered.
The researchers studied whether resveratrol could protect against radiation injuries resulting from exposure to accidents such as the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in Japan or from radiation therapy for cancer. They found that resveratrol protected cells in flasks but did not protect live mice from radiation damage. A similar natural product called acetyl resveratrol, however, did protect the mice. Acetyl resveratrol can be produced easily in large quantities and given orally, the researchers said. Further research is required to determine whether acetyl resveratrol is effective when orally administered, the researchers said.

Hmmmm...interesting info. I wonder which "nuts" provide protection. I have a particular addiction to pistachios. :D

This is an interesting find.

Please compare the suggested use of the iodine supplement below...

...with this quote
Dr. Mercola.com wrote:
"The Japanese consume 89 times more iodine than Americans due to their daily consumption of sea vegetables, and they have reduced rates of many chronic diseases, including the lowest rates of cancer in the world. The RDA for iodine in the U.S. is a meager 150 mcg/day, which pales in comparison with the average daily intake of 13800 mcg/day for the Japanese. There is a large body of evidence suggesting that low cancer rates in Japan are a result of their substantially higher iodine levels, as iodine has documented antioxidant and anti-proliferative properties."

Of course, this is pre-Fukushima data, the article is dated as February 08, 2012.

Some interesting, but obvious questions that EneNews forum user vital1 posted about what the manufacture of this product has shared with the consumers:

vital1 wrote:
Contains raw, certified-USP grade iodine derived from all-natural deep-sea vegetable sources, including kelp.

This information raises questions.

1. Where are the all-natural deep-sea vegetable sources, including kelp harvested?

2. Is it tested for radioactive contaminants including Iodine isotopes like I-129 which has a half life of 15.7 million years.

I am going to assume  that the ingredients are clean since I believe they also label the same product as Survival Shield to be used as protection against types of radiation as seen here:

Here is a good article that I found and it adds to this conversation about iodine:

myhealingkitchen.com wrote:
The safest, smartest way to protect yourself in our current situation is to boost your consumption of foods that are rich in natural iodine.

I call these “fallout foods” because they pump up your body’s iodine supply, making you less vulnerable to any radioactive iodine in the air.

Even without an iodine supplement, you can protect yourself and family from the increased radiation overhead by getting more of these fallout foods into your diet.

The best of these iodine-rich foods come from the oceans — and topping the list is seaweed and other sea vegetables, the leading food source of iodine on the planet.

Catch-22 ... "The best of these iodine-rich foods come from the oceans" of which all will be completely polluted with radioactive waste in the next 5-10 years if not now.
