Sorry I'm late, really late!

Today March 21, 2019 at 2:23 p.m. CST I changed my outside HEPA radiation monitoring station filter.

Please expect a rise in detection from my station during the late p.m. and early a.m. hours. Nothing over 70 CPM is expected.

Quote:
The Chicago area's "milky white" sky is caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires blowing over the upper Midwest, which could contribute to worsening air quality in the region today.

The smoke originated from fires in western Ontario and eastern Manitoba, making the sky hazy in spite of clear weather, the National Weather Service in Chicago reported on Twitter Monday.

"The sky may have a milky white look to it, especially over parts of far northern IL," the Twitter post said.

"Could see some of this reach pretty low and maybe even impact air quality some," the weather service said in an earlier Twitter post.

The Environmental Protection Agency reported moderate air quality in most of the Chicago area on Monday, which means pollutants could cause a health concern for a very small number of unusually sensitive people.

But today, much of the Chicago area is expected to see air quality listed as "unhealthy for sensitive groups," which means older people, children and people with lung diseases.

Because of the current smoke in the Northern Illinois area due to the fires in Canada, I expect to see my outside radiation monitoring station detect levels above normal. I say that because we know that the upper atmosphere radiation particles (from bomb testing, Fukushima and so on) attaches itself to the smoke. Much like when it rains.

I noticed today that my readings are almost zero. I think my Geiger counter tube might have failed. I'll research this more in the morning.

After some research, my geiger counter tube seems fine. I have had this system running for many years without needing to do much of anything in terms of repair to it. I moved some wires around, unplugged some connections and reconnected them along with doing a system reboot on the Pi. Now I just sit back and wait to see if it still gives me problems.

Well clearly something is wrong but I need to make time to figure it all out. The problem is with work right now and everything else going on, I don't have the time to figure it out yet. Remember this is a half inside & half outside unit with wires that are not easily routed.
