I see this station operator recently decided to put his GMC-200 outside on an air purifier as noted in his stations notes to the public: Station ID: 1:EB436E46 Edmond, OK, US wrote: Rasberry PI - connected to GMC-200, attached to an air filter, outdoors on 2nd floor balcony. 12-31-2013 01:10:00 Currently I see NETC has this station listed as a RADCON 4 due to the increased level being read while outside on the air purifier. It is important to understand that the RADCON levels are based on previous station levels so if this station was to reach higher levels that trigger the "A" ALERT level, this is not a valid ALERT because it was based off of previous data readings inside the house. I want to publicly thank this operator for not only setting this unit up outside and on an air purifier but also for making notes on his station so the public can read what has been done. This is another reason why we encourage station operators to start a thread like this one, just for their station. All information about the station can easily be added for the public to review. Long ago I started a thread like this for my South Beloit Illinois outside (GMC-200 / air purifier) station and I think it has helped many better understand my readings from that station.

I would also like to point out to people that since this station has the unit "on 2nd floor balcony" we can rule out more the possibility of radon coming up from the ground, altering the readings. Radon is often found in basements and is a heavy [often natural] gas. Having this unit up so high is even better than being near the ground! I hope this operator can manage to make this outside air purifier station a permanent location.

Hi KC, Thank you for starting this thread. The two stations here in Edmond OK are mine. I did see on the alert map the GMC-300 Icon covers this unit. Right now my two units are within 50 feet of each other. But I set them up on the map a few miles apart. I figure the station with the oldest data history stays on top. Since this one has the best potential for spikes I'd like to have it more visible on the map. So, I may relocate the 300 a few more miles on the map. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The readings on this site have gone up some recently. I want to point out that due to my neglect the history data may be somewhat muted from what could have been detected.
Yesterday I checked the air filter and found it had accumulated alot of dust and fibrous matter that covered the inlet grate and pre-filter. I cleaned it all up and installed a new filter. I'll work on more closely maintaining this station going forward.

Do not feel bad, I too get busy with life and fail to replace my outside HEPA radiation station (air purifier) filter on a regular schedule. I just replaced mine today and clearly things have got worse lately.

We are getting some weather coming up from the south. This is an unusual weather pattern for this area. Just as the storms start coming in my station went to alert status. I'll keep an eye on it and verify the readings if they persist.

It appears I picked up a hot particle that decayed rapidly. See the 48 hour chart.

Man... What a hit for fast decay! Breathe that in and your'e going to have problems... Looking at a map of power stations you appear to be in a area far away from our domestic plants. Check this one out on fallout simulation... http://www.nrdc.org/nuclear/fallout/ ...Although the Texas (Comanche Peak) plant is suspect, NRC reports that both reactors are operating @ 100 percent... You should send that filter for testing as the daughter products may (long shot) give us a clue what this was. Contact... http://radtest4u.com ...To get it tested for free! And Hey / KC maybe ya'll should start a new section for these "hits". I think it would be a good way to study these situations (if they were all copied to one thread) by date.

Hot particles after a wind change?
Could help explain your spike...
