Surprisingly, exposure to a high background radiation might actually lead to clear beneficial health effects in humans, according to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Nuclear Research Center Negev (NRCN) scientists. This is the first large-scale study which examines the two major sources of background radiation (terrestrial radiation and cosmic radiation), covering the entire U.S. population.

It makes sense and I beleive it. Life evolved with background radiation, and DNA mutations are routinely repaired. Higher natural radiation areas of the world, like Ramsar, Iran do not have higher cancer rates but lower, supporting this research. It's possible that keeping repair mechanisms exercised is beneficial.

If you force evolution with too much radiation, you get cancer. Some people it will take a little bit more and they get cancer. Background radiation has been going up, this is not how evolution is normal. The body adapting by function monitors structure. plus normal radiation exposure .

I agree that if radiation causes cancer before having kids, evolution will favour those not exposed to it. But I don't think background radiation has been going up. The 12 year graphs shown on this site show alot of seasonal variation, but not an overall rise over the last 12 years. At least for the 10 or so site I sampled. Is there another source showing the rising background (except of course veterans today which we know is alarmist without scientific backing)?
