I believe due to this storm Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant likely had an emergency shutdown.

Nuclear plants release more radiation during an emergency shutdown than they do during a regular scheduled shutdown.

Did you see any damage?

I hope everyone is ok up there...

...your reads look good today but all that water will trap some of the particulates, giving the area a break from floating dust and pollen.

Cleaned the air for a little while, at least there is a upside to this kind of loss from bad weather.

Hope you and yours are ok...

The storms fell just South of me.

I just looked and Braidwood NPP is at 100% so maybe it didn't shutdown last night during the storms.

Well there was lots of damage done. Here is a very interesting news cast showing the previous storms tornado path along with todays/Wednesdays predicted severe storm path. Yes, a repeat of Mondays storm is predicted. http://youtu.be/J-NnoGnNbag

I just found more information that says the Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant continued to run during the storm Monday night.

Quote:
The same storm, while still tornado-warned, tore down high-tension power lines to the Braidwood Nuclear Power Station in Braidwood, Illinois.
The station continued to produce electricity, Exelon Nuclear reported.

Clearly the plant couldn't have lost all their power lines during the storm, because they had to offload that power somewhere.

Yepper...

...another very scary part of the nuke power prob..

You gotta spin it down or risk all that magnetic energy building up and causing a fire or explosion.

If ya can't send it down the line (so to speak) It'll make your hair stand up yards away, overheat the generators and generally cause a (heat/fire) prob for sure...

Most can't imagine the forces involved.

Here's some fun stuff...

Here's some info for your area KC...

Anyway gotta go but check em (the links above) out to get a better idea of what we can be up against at any time...
